I used this in 3 separate meads with 4184 sweet mead yeast. The meads attenuated 100% and were extremely dry. I have used 4184 in the past and only had 1 of 3 go dry. This was 3 of 3. The only difference; Vitner's Choice. I guess if you want high attenuation out if your yeast, this is for you.
Wyeast Vintner Choice Nutrient Blend 1.5 oz
I used this to make a sparkling Apple "cider". Did 5 gallons of juice, 2 lbs of sugar and a champagne yeast, this nutrient blend (1 dose) . Let it ferment for about 2 weeks, 2 weeks more after transfer, then bottled it with priming sugar. Worked, about 16% abv
The nutrient worked as expected. Used it in my first mead and seemed to help my yeast get off to a good start. Will use it everytime.
I initially brewed my meads with no nutrient and the yeast activity was sufficient for my needs and taste. Then one day I had to meet an order minimum and so I ordered a vial of this stuff. On my next batch I went ahead and gave it a try. My yeast absolutely erupted! Within two or three feet of the fermenter, I could actually hear the constant hiss of the yeast activity and the finished product, using the same recipe, had climbed two whole points in ABV. I now consider this stuff to be an absolute necessity when making mead. I don't use it in beer wort because it naturally has sufficient nutrients for the yeast but if you make mead or wine, I highly recommend it.
