Product details

If we had to pick just one style that embodies everything a beer should be, Czech Pilsner might be it: this lager showcases both malt and hops but allows some expression of yeast character; mellow enough to drink a few half-liters but technical enough to demand care in brewing. Clear, deep golden color, foamy white head, medium-full body with caramelly malt and spicy hop character, firm bitterness giving way to a soft finish.

Due to the high starting gravity of this kit, we recommend pitching multiple packs of yeast or preparing a yeast starter for best results.

Not enough IBU's

The grain bill will make a nice Czech pils. The supplied hops do not have enough alpha acids to get the correct bittering levels for the style.

Excellent beer as always!

This is my 3rd or 4th time brewing this Czech lager and it's always excellent. I personally use the Urkel yeast. I won't taste exactly like a Pilsner Urquel; this home brew version will be slightly sweeter and less bitter, but still excellent!

Fermentation at 55F for about 2 weeks, diacetyl rest for 3-4 days at 65, transfer to secondary, then lagering at 50 for 2 weeks, 45 for 2 weeks, 40 for 2 weeks and 35 for 2 weeks and it's ready to keg!

First time pilsner

First attempt at lager. Kit very easy to use. Had to be patient and let lager as the clarity and taste greatly improved over time.

Czech pilsner.. you can do it!

If your like me and its difficult to keep the beer fridge between 52 and 58 as safe lager yeast recommends I've learned a hard lesson. it's taken 3 trys to get a good beer but adding safelager 34/70 in addition to the recommend yeast cleans up the diacyetyl taste (unwanted butter flavors). Also a teaspoon of Irish moss does wonders In aiding with the clarity. A pilsner is time consuming and very disappointing when it doesn't turn out. Following these tips helped me a lot. Now if your that guy who has spent the money on the refrigerator equipment you don't need these tips. For the rest of us the 34/70 and Irish moss is a great help
