Not That Smokey

The malt was not as smokey as compared to smoked malt I get locally. I was looking for something close to the Schlenkerla flavor However, the service was excellent and product was delivered in perfect condition. I would definitely order something else from Northern Brewer.

excellent grains, fast shipping

Brewed with this before, makes an excellent rauchebier. Shipping was quick, beer was brewed.

Nice smokey porter

I can't give it 5 stars yet because it hasn't fully bottle aged, but the one last night was very tasty, but flat. Not sweet, no coffee taste, no chocolate, but nice dry finish. Just what I was looking for. The recipe came from Brew magazine. This was my first non kit brewed. I will do it again!

It does what it says

This malt isn't for everybody, but if you are looking to make authentic rauchbier you will need this. It isn't as powerful as other wood-smoked malts as others I have tried. That may be a good thing. Some rauchbier can take quite some time to "relax". If you use a Bavarian strain like 34/70 and lager for an appropriate time, it turns out really nice. The style is not for everybody, but this malt will help you get there...

malt

the smocked malt was great. But the Abby yeast i bought was bad never bubbled up had to buy another packet at a local store to make it work. I sentan e-mail to you but never received a answer. @ $ 9.00 a pouch, would have been nice to get a refund.
