* The V-Vessel

The V-Vessel System was originally designed to save time, space, and money for the Canadian wine-on-premise industry. Now you can take advantage of all the benefits the V-Vessel brings to making wine and beer in your own home.

The V-Vessel is the only conical fermenter with a collection capsule at the base. With the collection capsule, you will be able to take sediment or trub from the bottom -- no more racking! It reduces the liquid-to-sediment contact area by 99.6% compared to using a pail, and you can remove the collection capsules on 13 units in the same time it would take you to siphon one batch from a pail to a carboy.

If you're making wine, you can either bottle or filter directly from the unit. If you're making beer, you can prime the beer through the opening on the top, open the valve and bottle. Or just open the valve and run the line into your keg. The V-Vessel comes complete with the V-Vessel unit, a collection capsule, wall bracket and mounting assembly, rubber bung & airlock, hose adapter, 6 feet of tubing with a hose clamp, and a large funnel. Please note that the V-Vessel is a wall-mounted unit and needs to be installed on a concrete wall or anchored into wooden (not metal) studs.

Great for red wine fermentations and managing differing fruit yields from year to year. These tanks can be used as a primary fermenter, or for long-term storage and aging. All variable volume tanks include a lid with an integral two-stage airlock, inflatable gasket, and pump for the floating lid. The 50 and 100 liter models come with a 1/2" chrome ball valve for racking and drawing samples; the 300 liter has a 3/4" chrome ball valve. Stands are sold separately. Do not use bleach or sulfite solution or abrasive clean

*Wine Yeast Starter Kits

Using a yeast starter to increase yeast cell count and viability helps you get the most out of your fermentation and consistently make great wine. According to a leading manufacturer, a pack of wine yeast off the shelf will yield approximately 3 million yeast cells per mL in a 5 gallon batch; professional winemakers typically inoculate must at 3-6 million cells per ml. To make up the difference, you can either add more packs of yeast to each fermenter, or propagate the yeast in a starter. Making a starter for wine yeast is very easy: dilute grape juice concentrate with sterile water at a 1:6 ratio in a sanitized flask, add ½ teaspoon of yeast nutrient, shake to mi, and pitch yeast, then ferment for 1 to 2 days before adding to the main must. Includes flask with stopper and airlock, 500 ml grape juice concentrate, 2 oz yeast nutrient, and complete instructions.

*Wine Test Equipment

AccuVin pH Test Kit. As one of the key parameters of interest to the winemaker, pH is an important factor in selecting the optimum time to harvest grapes. It is measured to see if adjustments need to be made prior to primary fermentation. It is also measured when adding sulfur dioxide as a preservative since the effectiveness of this chemical varies dramatically as pH changes. And pH is controlled to optimize conditions for fining, for improving a wine's resistance to microbial instability, and in defining a wine's balance. The pH test kit is optimized for enology use with a pH range from 3.0 - 4.0, and a sensitivity to 0.1 pH unit.

Includes 10 tests, 10 samplers, and instructions

AccuVin Malic Acid Test Kit. Malolactic fermentation, the secondary fermentation of winemaking, is a method for reducing total titratable acidity by adjusting the relative concentrations of L-malic and L-lactic acids, softening the wine and allowing it to develop mellowness and full-bodiedness, This process also results in enhanced microbial stability since one of the key nutrients of spoilage bacteria is removed. The Malic Acid Kit has a range of 30 - 500 mg/L.

Includes 10 tests in a black barrier tube, 10 samplers, and instructions

#40195Quick Test - Malic Acid 10 test kit $24.99
EACH
BUY

AccuVin L-Lactic Acid Test Kit. The L-Lactic Acid Kit is intended for measuring the L-lactic acid in wines to ensure that malolactic fermentation has begun. It is not always easy to determine if the appearance of bubbles following primary fermentation is the onset of actual MLF or merely a wine "outgassing" as it warms. The product, with a test range of 10 - 400 mg/L, can also be used to screen for high levels of contamination by lactic acid bacteria.

Includes 5 tests in a black barrier tube, 5 samplers, and instructions.

#40196Quick Test - L-Lactic Acid 5 test kit $11.50
EACH
BUY

AccuVin Residual Sugar Test Kit. Tests for fructose and glucose sugars, the sugars reduced in primary fermentation. Reducing sugars in wine consist of hexoses (mainly glucose and fructose) and pentoses (mainly arabinose and xylose). The pentoses are not fermentable by wine yeasts. Since pentoses alone can vary from 0.4 - 2.0 g/L, the best measure of primary fermentation is the determination of glucose and fructose. The test range is 100 - 2,000 mg/L.

Includes 10 tests in a black barrier tube, 10 samplers, and instructions.

#40197Quick Test - Residual Sugar 10 test kit $20.50
EACH
BUY

AccuVin Titratable Acidity Test Kit. The level of titratable acidity is important in optimizing extraction of flavor components prior to fermentation. During processing, controlling TA improves fermentation. Post fermentation monitoring of acidity levels leads to correct balance, and improves the efficacy of aging. Post fermentation monitoring of TA levels can also be used to follow undesireable changes caused by yeasts or bacteria. The range of the TA Kit is from 4.0 - 11.0 g/L as tartaric acid.

The TA Test Kit includes 10 tests, 10 samplers, and instructions.

#40194Quick Test - Titratable Acidity 10 test kit $20.50
EACH

AccuVin Free SO2 Test Kit. The sulfur dioxide present in must and wine is not all useful as a preservative. Some is bound to other chemical components, reducing its effectiveness as a preservative by 30 - 70%. Also, the degree of binding can change over time, affecting the ability of an adequate dose to continue providing its preservative properties. The effectiveness of sulfur dioxide as a preservative is also pH-dependent, with low pH wines requiring lower levels, and high pH wines requiring significantly greater concentrations to achieve the same effectiveness as in a typical wine with a pH of 3.3 - 3.4. The Free SO2 Kit is divided into a Low Range (0 - 40 ppm) and a High Range (40 - 130 ppm).

Includes 2 High Range Tests (red caps) and 8 Low Range Tests (green caps), 10 samplers, and instructions.

Titrets can be used on red wines, but it is more difficult to use. One package of titrets contain 10 glass ampules; the optional titrettor can make using the ampules more convenient.
