By performing simple (dare we say, fun) tests with this kit, you'll be able to tell conclusively when fermentation ends (those airlock bubbles aren't always reliable!) and calculate the alcohol content of your brews. You don't need to test the gravity of wort or beer in order to brew successfully - after all, humanity brewed without these instruments for millennia - but it sure takes out a lot of guesswork.

Seems like a good deal, but I have no way to verify accuracy

Hydro construction is fairly solid. It is filled with beads, so I assume it is calibrated. I don't have any other hydrometer so I can't tell if it is accurate. It reads just over 1.000 for tap water which makes sense since there are probably some dissolved materials in there. The beer theif is cheaply made, but would probably work fine. I haven't used it because I pull the sample from a bucket spigot.

test kit was a back up, because i have a slippery grip
but the Hydrometer is better than the one currently using
the wine thief does not work well with country wine with
the fruit loose in the primary
overall happy with the purchase,
