Product details

This American IPA beer kit has a relatively modest gravity and an immodest hop character derived entirely from a single hop variety.

Chinook hops have long been used by US brewers for bittering additions, but their intense aroma and flavor have caught on only recently.

It shows up in the glass with a reddish-gold color and a thick, resinous Chinook aroma that lingers after the glass is emptied.

Chinook 1 gallon ipa kit

The kit itself is great, very happy with the end product except for the fuzzy drops provided in the kit. I have never used something like that for priming but figured I would give it a shot. Sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, they didn't prime the beer at all. I waited 2 weeks and opened the first bottle to find it totally flat. I then opened a partial test bottle filled with the last of the batch, not enough to fill my 12 once bottle, that I primed with table sugar since I figured a fuzzy drop would be too much for a smaller volume. That was the only bottle with carbonation. Super disappointed so I added a pinch of sugar to the remaining bottles in hopes that they carbonate.

Chinook IPA - Gluten-Free version!

This is my second 1 gal batch of the Chinook IPA that is gluten-free for my wife and brother-in-law’s enjoyment! With the kind assistance of the Northern Brewer team, I substituted Sorghum Malt Extract syrup and Lutra Kveik gluten-free dry yeast. Last time I used the Lutra Kveik GF slurry yeast, but NB was out of stock this time. Also clarity firm for its GF benefits. I add a 1/2 cup of my home-grown Centennial hops to the final 15 min of the boil. For GF, I omit the grain bag at the start of the boil. We opened the first bottle on Easter and it met with the approval of the GF beer drinkers and also those sampling my others. It’s clear, crisp and refreshing. Makes me want to try it myself on a hot day. Definitely a winner -GF or not! Cheers!!

It's OK

I added an additional 1/2 Gal of water to try and yield a full 12 pack, and I delayed the first round of hops in the boil. And I'm not happy with it. It's not bad, but, it's not really good either for an IPA. Has a nice nutty ale taste.
