Product details

A multiple gold medal winner at the Colorado State Fair, this decadent vanilla porter is sure to raise eyebrows. A rich, smooth porter with hints of rum and molasses behind a coffee-like roasted character, then infused with fragrant vanilla. The final pint emanates a heady vanilla perfume and makes for both a wonderful after-dinner drink or the ultimate ice cream float.

Dry Dock Brewing Company of Aurora CO is one of the hottest up and coming breweries in the US. In the 6 years that it has been open, it has racked up more than a dozen World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival medals, including Small Brewing Company of the Year. But to try one of their amazing brews, you have to live in the tiny section of Colorado they cater to. Good thing for the rest of us Dry Dock has worked closely with Northern Brewer to develop these Pro-Series beer kits. We've sourced the same ingredients and kept all the recipe particulars the same, just scaled down to your home-brewery. Enjoy!

This is a partial mash beer kit - see our Partial Mash Walkthrough for details.

In addition to the equipment required for malt extract brewing (boiling kettle, primary fermenter, siphon, etc.), you will need the following to brew our partial mash kits:

  • A thermometer with a range that includes 120°-170°F
  • A mash kettle - a pot with a capacity of at least 4 gallons (the boiling kettle you already have can do double duty)
  • A second pot or kettle with a capacity of at least 2 gallons for heating sparge water
  • A large strainer or a nylon mesh bag that can hold up to 5 pounds of wet grain (used to separate the grain from the mash liquid in Step #8)

Due to the high starting gravity of this kit, we recommend pitching multiple packs of yeast or preparing a yeast starter for best results.

Awesome Porter

This is one of the favorites, smooth and fragrant. I will definitely brew it again. I purchased 4 vanilla beans and soaked them in 16oz of vodka, after two weeks I opened and scraped the beans into the vodka. On keg day the vanilla vodka was filtered into my beer, two weeks of keg condition and it perfect.

Love this Vanilla Porter

First time making this Vanilla Porter. Followed the recipe and let it ferment for 2 weeks. I ended up bottling 4 Gallons of the original recipe, and I then added 1oz of Maker's Mark straight to the last Gallon and bottled the last 12 pack to make a Vanilla Bourbon Porter. Sampled after 2 weeks, and the batch with Maker's Mark was to overpowering in Bourbon flavor. The Vanilla was very weak in the other batch, but tasted OK. Let it sit for another 2 weeks, and both batches now tasted outstanding! The original recipe had just the right amount of vanilla and tasted just as well as any other craft brewed Vanilla Porter. The batch with Maker's Mark tasted very good with just a hint of bourbon now and very creamy. I will brew this recipe again, and add 5oz Maker's Mark soaked in oak chips to the whole batch.

ABV Vanilla Porter = 5.5%
ABV Vanilla Bourbon Porter = 6.5%

Great Tasting Vanilla Porter

Guest commented that it tasted much better than popular Vanilla Porter sold in stores. My first partial mash…would have paid a few extra bucks to have option to include a brew bag.

Vanilla porter, beer was creamy, a touch bitter and definitely needs more vanilla flavor
