Mount Hood Hops

Mount Hood is a versatile American aroma hop variety, bred in Oregon and released in 1989. A triploid daughter of Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, it shares noble characteristics with its German parentage, offering mild, sweet, and floral aromas with subtle herbal and spicy notes. Mount Hood is well-suited for a variety of beer styles, particularly those seeking a refined hop presence.

Mount Hood Hops Overview

  • Flavors: Floral, herbal, spicy, mild sweetness
  • Primary Usage: Aroma (late kettle additions, dry hopping)
  • Best Beer Styles: Lager, Pilsner, Kölsch, Wheat Beer, Belgian Ale, Pale Ale
  • Similar Varieties: Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, Liberty, Crystal, Hersbrucker

Background

Developed by the USDA breeding program in Oregon, Mount Hood was created to provide a domestic alternative to European noble hops. Its balanced aroma profile and moderate alpha acid content make it a popular choice among brewers aiming for subtle hop character without overpowering bitterness.

Love these hops!

Mt Hood hops are my go to hop when I want something that's kinda mellow and I'm going to add a flavor to me secondary.

I’ve been using these hops for years brewing a Redhook Rye clone. Nice bitterness and aroma.

Great for dry hopping. Gives a piney spicy aroma.

Rye beer ingredients

I followed a recipe I found online, and required ingredients were easy to find. Yeast took off like a rocket, and I just bottled the beer a week ago. What was left in the bucket tastes great already!
