Product details

Not your typical amber ale, patterned after Belgian-style pale ales, which might be described as slightly less bitter, more fruity versions of English pale ales. Our Phat Tyre kit is copper-red with a fruity, slightly spicy aroma and flavor that comes from a combination of yeast and hops. A blend of Munich, caramel and Victory malts creates a sweet, toasty, bready character that lingers from the aroma through the finish.

German? With a few modifications.

Back to brewing after some health issues and a move.
I have made this beer many times, but never as a Belgian ale. I don't care for those.
However made with S05 yeast and substituting Hallertau hops for the late addition this kit comes pretty close to an Altbier, and is quite enjoyable as an everyday, late day wind down. Thank you Northern Brewer for helping me return to such a treasured hobby!

Easy to Brew Great to Drink

This is my go to summer brew. It’s a can’t fail recipe to brew and results in a really smooth amber beer that is perfect for the beginning of summer. I just bottled a batch last week and look forward to opening a fresh one next week!

I need a bit of incentive if I 'm going to spend some time critiquing my order. )
