Selected in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium, Fermentis SafAle™ BW-20 is a medium attenuative yeast that has been specifically selected for the production of Belgian Wheat beers, also called Witbiers. While producing esters (banana notes) and phenols (4-VG) which are important components for Witbiers, SafAle BW-20 is less aromatic than other Fermentis wheat yeasts on this aspect. This criteria has been important in the selection of this strain by Fermentis to let brewers and homebrewers worldwide play with other ingredients like coriander seeds or orange peels as is the case in Belgium.
