Target Hop Pellets – 1 oz

Target is a robust English hop variety developed at Wye College and released in 1972. Originally bred from Northern Brewer and Eastwell Goldings, Target offers a high alpha acid content, making it suitable for bittering, while its distinctive aroma profile of citrus, herbal, and spicy notes lends itself well to late additions. Its versatility has made it a staple in traditional English ales and lagers.

Target Hops Overview

  • Flavors: Citrus, herbal, spicy (sage, pepper)
  • Primary Usage: Dual-purpose (bittering and aroma)
  • Best Beer Styles: English Ales, Bitters, Porters, Stouts, Lagers
  • Similar Varieties: Challenger, Northern Brewer, Fuggle

Background

Developed in the UK, Target hops have been widely adopted for their high alpha acids and distinctive aroma. While primarily used for bittering, their complex flavor profile has found favor in late kettle additions and dry hopping, especially in English-style ales.

Been making my bitter for ten years with target as the bittering hop

Underated hop.

Did a ordinary bitter with these and turned out fantastic. Didn't notice any harsh bitterness but hey, what do I know.

Harsh bitterness

These hops have high cohumulone, resulting in very harsh bitterness. I now only use Challenger hops for littering English ales.
